Feeling the Effects of Climate Change?
In the past few decades, our use of oil, coal and natural gas have significantly increased -- particularly for transportation and manufacturing. This increased use of fossil fuels is causing rapid changes to our way of life.
- Water levels are rising due to higher temperatures, causing dramatic changes to ecosystems.
- As you may have experienced at the gas pump, the cost to drive is going up, up, up. One positive outcome of these higher prices is that it may become preferable to bicycle, walk or take public transportation to your destination.
- From a health perspective, microorganisms that cause infectious diseases often thrive in these warmer temperatures (we are creating) and can adapt to climate changes more quickly than we can. As a consequence, new plant, animal and insect diseases are becoming more prevalent.
- Compounding all these changes, we are being challenged to take dramatic actions to conserve water.
