Cold Weather Safety & Warming Centers
Cold temperatures are in the forecast this weekend, with overnight lows reaching the low 30s and the potential of frost. Cold weather puts many people at risk for serious health conditions, including hypothermia, which is caused by dangerously low body temperature. Make sure to bundle up and stay warm. People 65 and older or very young children are at a higher risk of hypothermia. Left untreated, hypothermia limits your nervous system from working correctly.
Community members in need of warmth and shelter are encouraged to go to a Warming Center. VTA is offering free bus rides to Warming Centers. Community members only need to let bus drivers know which locations they are going to or coming back from. No proof is required.
The Saratoga Library (13650 Saratoga Avenue) is closed on Friday, November 11, for Veterans Day and will be open on Saturday, November 12, and Sunday, November 13, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Visit www.PrepareSCC.org/ColdWeather or call 408.385.2400 for a complete list of locations and more information.
