2023 Leadership in Courage Award
Do you know a resident of Saratoga who is a silent leader or has demonstrated unexpected courage or resilience, taken a stand for something they believed in, or has led their life with dignity and perseverance through an extraordinary challenge? Submit your nomination by Sunday, August 27 at 11:59 p.m. on the City website at www.saratoga.ca.us/courage
The selected award recipient will be recognized at the State of the City on September 9, 2023, at Wildwood Park at 7:00 p.m. The event will include lawn games and activities, refreshments, resource tables, and free t-shirts (supplies limited) starting at 6:00 p.m. Following the presentation of community awards and updates from the Mayor, 101 Dalmatians will be shown in the park.
State of the City
Join the City of Saratoga, Mayor Kookie Fitzsimmons, and the City Council for Saratoga's 2023 State of the City. The event will be held on Saturday, September 9 and is free to attend. The festivities kick off at 6:00 p.m. with lawn games and activities, refreshments, and resource tables. Free commemorative t-shirts will also be given to the first 100 attendees. At 7:00 p.m. Mayor Fitzsimmons will share important City updates and present community awards. New City Website, Take a Look!
The City launched its new website this week. The new site features a clean, modern design as well as an enhanced search tool, improved navigation, and chatbot that utilizes artificial intelligence to provide visitors with 24/7 support to locate information on the website and access services. Pierce Road Evacuation Route Hardening Project
The Santa Clara County Fire Vasona Fuels Crew started an evacuation route hardening project on Pierce Road between Mt. Eden Road and Highway 9 on August 15. Work will include the removal of shrubs and ground fuels as well as lower-hanging tree branches. Work will take place between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday until September 7.
Wildfire Preparedness Workshops
Santa Clara County Fire Department invites you to learn about red flag warnings, creating defensible space, fire-safe landscaping, making your home more fire resistant, developing a Wildfire Action Plan, emergency alerts and notifications, and resources to build fire-resilient communities. Upcoming workshops will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on August 21 in Saratoga, and September 26 in Los Altos. Visit sccfd.eventbrite.com to learn more and register.
Saratoga Retirement Community Project Updates
The Draft Environmental Impact Report for the Saratoga Retirement Community project application is available for review through August 21 at 5:00 p.m. Comments can be submitted in writing by email or mail. Annual Gun Relinquishment Program
Starting on Monday, August 21st, the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting the Annual Gun Relinquishment Program. A $50 gift card (5 maximum) will be given for each firearm relinquished. Visit the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office website for more information.
Santa Clara County Community Wildfire Preparedness Meeting
Participate in the Santa Clara County Community Wildfire Protection Plan public outreach meeting on August 30 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., in person at the Los Gatos Lodge, 50 Saratoga-Los Gatos Road, Los Gatos, CA, and on Zoom. The CWPP aims to further wildfire preparedness initiatives throughout the county and provide support for residents seeking resources to be better prepared for wildfire. State Review of Housing Element Third Draft
The California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) conducted its review of the third draft of Saratoga's 2023-2031 Housing Element and provided comments in its third comment letter. The City is currently reviewing the State's comment letter and will provide more information, including opportunities for the community to provide input, in the coming weeks.
