Winter Storm PreparationTemperatures are dropping, raindrops are falling, and we’re reminding all Saratogans that it’s important to be prepared for winter weather! Flooding, fallen trees, power outages, and landslides are all possible outcomes of winter storms.
If you live in a flood-prone area, please prepare your property in advance of heavy rain. A free, 24-hour sandbag station is available right outside of the City’s Corporation Yard (19700 Allendale Avenue) where you will find bags, sand, sandbag fillers, and shovels. There is a 25-bag limit per household. You can find more information and learn about proper sandbag techniques on the Santa Clara Valley Water District’s website at www.valleywater.org/sandbags.
You can report fallen trees, landslides, and flooding on roads and public property to the City of Saratoga by calling 408.868.1245 on weekdays between 6:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. At all other times, contact Santa Clara County Communications at 408.299.2507. Report power outages and damaged power lines to PG&E at 800.743.5000, and always call 9-1-1 to report downed power lines or any other emergency. For more information, visit www.saratoga.ca.us/storms.

Holiday Safety Tips from the County Sheriff’s OfficeWith more consumers making online purchases, the County Sheriff’s Office West Valley Division would like to remind you to be wary of package thieves. The holiday season is the most opportune time for these thieves to strike, and we are seeing an increase in package theft.
Protect your packages by using other delivery options, such as having a neighbor or relative accept the parcel if you can’t be home, having the package delivered to your workplace, requesting the shipper hold the package for pick-up, providing delivery instructions to hide the parcel out of sight, or utilizing shipping lockers offered by various companies.
The highest number of suspicious persons reports occurs in the month of December. The Sheriff’s Office encourages you to continue to stay alert and do not hesitate to call 9-1-1 immediately to report any activities that appear suspicious throughout the year. If you do not want to call 9-1-1, please call the non-emergency line at 408.299.2311.

Quick Tip from Captain RichCaptain Rich Urena oversees the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office West Valley Division.
This year, Saratoga and communities throughout the region have seen an increase in car break-ins and thefts from vehicles. Keep your belongings safe by always closing windows and lock your vehicle when parked. Never leave items of value in plain sight in your vehicle.

Ask Our Staff featuring Debbie BretschneiderQ: How can I contact the Saratoga City Council members?
A: There are multiple ways you can get in touch with the Saratoga City Council. Start by visiting www.saratoga.ca.us/council to find information about the Mayor, Vice Mayor, and Council Members.
There, you can read a short biography about each City Council Member and find their contact information. You can contact the City Council as a group by submitting an online comment form or emailing them. Additionally, a phone number and email address for each Council Member are available so you can contact them individually.
You can also send a letter addressed to the Saratoga City Council or any individual Council Member to Saratoga City Hall at 13777 Fruitvale Ave. Saratoga, CA 95070. At each City Council meeting, there is also an opportunity to address the Council about topics not listed on the meeting agenda. While the City Council cannot discuss these items, it is one more way to share information with them.
Debbie Bretschneider is the City Clerk who administers local democratic processes such as elections, access to City records, and all legislative actions ensuring transparency to the public. The City Clerk acts as a compliance officer for federal, state, and local statutes, including the Political Reform Act, the Brown Act, and the Public Records Act.
