City of Saratoga Neighborhood Watch

Tips & Trends

Did you know you can now text 9-1-1 during an emergency? In situations where your safety requires hiding and texting for help, local law enforcement agencies now have the capability to text back and forth with you. However, calling 9-1-1 is still the preferred way to get help because emergency personnel are better able to get crucial information from you in a timely manner. To ensure you get the help you need when you text 9-1-1 during an emergency, remember the following tips:

  • Include clear information about location, nature of emergency, and type of help needed in your initial text
  • Remember to silence your phone if you do not want to be heard
  • Be prepared to answer follow-up questions
  • Keep messages brief and do not include photos, videos or emojis

Neighborhood Watch Gathering Requirement

All Neighborhood Watch groups are required to hold and report at least one gathering per calendar year to stay registered with the City of Saratoga. Gatherings can be as simple or elaborate as time and energy permits. In the past, groups have held holiday cookie exchanges, ice cream socials, weekend morning coffee, or even large block parties. Kick things off by reintroducing the Neighborhood Watch lead(s) and block captains then review group goals. To help offset the cost of organizing a gathering, Saratoga provides an annual $300 Neighborhood Watch grant.
