Tips & Trends

Make the most of the holidays this year by following these safety tips:

  • Avoid package thefts by having packages delivered to work or a locker facility
  • Request a patrol check if you will be out of town for the holidays
  • Stop mail and newspaper delivery when out of town
  • Take inventory of new holiday purchases, including photos and item make, model, and serial number

Neighborhood Watch Lead Get Together Recap

In October, Saratoga Neighborhood Watch Leads participated in the fall Lead Get Together hosted by the City. Leads enjoyed dinner, received surveillance camera best practices from fellow Neighborhood Watch leads, and heard presentations from the Sheriff’s Office on identity theft, fraud, and current trends. The presentation slides on identity theft/fraud and current trends are available on the City website.
The City also announced that a new combined Neighborhood Watch/video surveillance sign will be available to Neighborhood Watch groups. Upon request, the new sign will be available to groups that would like to inform the public that Neighborhood Watch is active, and the area is under private video surveillance. Signage is still under development. The City will announce availability of the signage and the request process through the Neighborhood Watch Newsletter.

Report Neighborhood Watch Gatherings by Dec. 31

All Neighborhood Watch groups are required to hold and report at least one gathering per calendar year to stay registered with the City of Saratoga. Gatherings can be as simple or elaborate as time and energy permits. In the past, groups have held holiday cookie exchanges, ice cream socials, weekend morning coffee, or even large block parties. Kick things off by reintroducing the Neighborhood Watch lead(s) and block captains then review group goals. To help offset the cost of organizing a gathering, Saratoga provides an annual $300 Neighborhood Watch grant.

Report your gathering by December 31 or request a $300 Neighborhood Watch grant on the City website at
